Dr. Sunny Kang, MD, FRCPC — Royal College–certified psychiatrist providing virtual outpatient psychiatric care to adults across Alberta, based in Calgary.
CURRENTLY NO WAITLIST — new consults booked promptly. (Updated July 2026)
SERVICE MODEL
Care is episodic and goal-directed — designed to return your patient to you: typically 3–6 months or until stabilization, then discharge back to your care with a comprehensive transition summary and a clear maintenance plan. Prescribing, including stimulants, is transferred back once stable. Re-referral is always welcome if symptoms recur. Particular interest in young adults and transition-age care, alongside general adult work.
Two referral streams:
- Consult + treatment — full episode of care (~3–6 months), then discharge back to the referring physician
- Consultation-only — one-time assessment and opinion while you retain management (indicate on the referral form)
Appointments are by secure video (telephone if needed) — no app required. Appointment links and intake materials are sent to patients by email, so please include the patient's email address on the referral. Patients anywhere in Alberta are eligible, provided they are physically in Alberta during appointments.
REFERRALS ACCEPTED
- Depression
- Anxiety disorders
- Bipolar disorder
- ADHD
- Psychotic disorders that are stable or by history (e.g., medication readjustment, relapse prevention), where a defined episode of care fits
- Comorbid substance use with a primary mood, anxiety, or ADHD presentation (not severe active use requiring withdrawal management)
PLEASE DO NOT REFER
- Acute/florid psychosis, or chronic psychotic illness needing indefinite psychiatric follow-up (e.g., community treatment orders)
- Primary addiction
- Urgent or emergent presentations — this is a routine outpatient service; patients needing intervention within days belong with Access Mental Health (403-943-1500) or the ED
- IMEs and disability/insurance forms — an opinion will appear in the consult letter, but forms remain with your office
REFERRAL CRITERIA
Age 18–65 (17+ near transition to adulthood; over 65 if medically stable — otherwise geriatric psychiatry is the better fit). Valid AHCIP coverage. Physically in Alberta during appointments. Not in acute crisis. Chronic or passive suicidal ideation does NOT preclude referral — only urgent or emergent risk does.
HOW TO REFER
Fax your own EMR referral form — or our one-page referral form, available at tailormadepsychiatry.ca/refer — with your consult note to 587-510-2503. Please include current medications (or attach a medication list) and your billing/PRAC ID for the consult claim.
WHAT REFERRING OFFICES RECEIVE
- Acknowledgment with expected booking date on receipt of referral
- Consultation letter after intake
- Discharge summary with maintenance plan and recommendations on completion
